I can’t believe I’d rather have this chode than what’s happening now

      1980-1988 : Ronald Reagan
1988-1992 : George Bush Sr (Bush Family 1)
      1992-2000 : Bill Clinton
2000-2008 : George Bush Jr (Bush Family 2)
      2008-2016 : Barrack Obama
2016-20?? : George Jeb Bush (Bush Family 3)
      20??-20XX : Some other person
20XX-20yy : Barbara Bush JR (Bush Family 4)

This looks like a healthy way to run the country… but then again, I chose to move to Uruguay, where they’ve had at least 4 Batlles and 3 Herrerras.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_presidents_of_Uruguay
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Batlle
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luis_Alberto_Lacalle / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luis_Lacalle_Pou

The eldest son of the 30th president Luis Batlle Berres and a member of the Batlle family, he was the fourth member of the family to serve as president of the country.

How are you finding Uruguay? I’m not in any hurry to move since I’ve got a kid I don’t have sole custody of (so kinda stuck in Estonia), but I know at least one friend of mine is considering Uruguay.

Depends if they can get good work. A few years ago I would have said “hell yeah, if you’re on the left come on down”, but at the moment with the software industry in the shitter, I’m stuck in my current job which is putting a damper on my perspective.

As a country, it’s great. the political atmosphere goes between center right and mainstream left, we’re (hopefully) getting over the bump in the rise of hard right ideals when the center right party was supported by the small fascist party (read more about cabildo abierto) , there is a VERY strong protest and union culture here, and migration is a fairly standardised and easy process compared to other places. You don’t need to be a citizen or resident to get a job; the tax system is more than happy to take your money just with your passport.

I recommend he make some uruguayan friends online and come visit During summer (dec-feb). It’s not all sunshine and roses, especially in montevideo (there are homeless people in the city, and it does get called “Mugrevideo”, but part of that is that the public constantly expects better.)

Well, person in question is a software engineer and can work remotely, so I’m sure she’d find a way to keep her current job. Pretty sure our country has a taxation treaty with Uruguay. Matter of fact, same for me - I was already planning on moving to the canary islands to work remotely till I had a bit of a surprise pregnancy dumped on me. For me it was the weather, not social or political reasons though. The nights are -20C and colder for the last 2 weeks, which is actually preferable to the usual muddy winters we have lately, where it’s cold even if it’s not freezing, and also muddy and nasty and dark.

What kind of income do you need to have to actually live comfortably there?

Honestly how ineffective his campaign was and his ultimate failure kinda disproves the point you were trying to make about some political dynasty.

Still would have been better than Trump. Roe would still have been destroyed, but you know ICE wouldn’t be being used as an army to terrorize the country

In fairness, the population of Uruguay is about 1/100 as big as the USA, all else being equal there should be 1/100 as many families as well.

Those long line of corrupt as hell old fucks paved way to “this”. Why do you think orange turd does the way things he does?

Because none of the old corrupt as hell fucks never got any consequences.

I can’t believe this has to be said every time you fuckwits praise old corrupt politicians. It kinda feels you deserve what’s happening.

Perfect is th enemy of good but what you’re doing is how much bad you are willing to accept. And they keep sliding towards a little worse, leading to the bottom.

Bullshit and fuck you. Yeah this is a result of feeding the heritage foundation from the table for decades, but this is more the metaphorical result of the dam breaking and wiping out entire towns downstream.

You’re probably one of those “both sides” clowns who stymie any sort of progress because of an ideological stance which could never be achieved in the real world. I have indeed learned a lot over the years, which is that progress is messy and involves coalitions with those who differ, in service of goals. Insisting on throwing out the whole system is immature is overly idealistic. Thanks for making two people on the same side of the political spectrum get into a ln internet fight.

Just blatant pillaging and terror in broad daylight.

It’s imperialism gone inward. People in Iraq and Afghanistan still had it worse, in broad daylight. US citizens just feel bad about two white people dying.

The Heritage foundation hasn’t developed project 2025 for Trump specifically. Whoever else had been chosen to win would have done the same.

Those downvotes are not a good sign. People don’t realize how severe the introduction of torture and extrajudical detention was.

It’s totally normalized now. It is to be expected that ICE will be equally accepted.

You’d have to be absolutely delusional to really believe that Jeb and Trump would even be remotely the same. Just look at their stances towards NATO, the EU, Greenland or Ukraine and Russia. America would still be a functioning country with Jeb in the White House instead of a circus with the Prime Diddler at the helm.

That was the first US election i payed attention to and i had no idea this happened or that he was running in it. Everytime i saw “Jeb!” memes I thought it was a reference to an election from the 90s or something. I hope that brings solace to Mr Bush - people aren’t thinking about it as much as he (probably) thinks they are.

The problem was that people kept clapping and interrupting his speech, so he said he’d give them cues when to clap.

So when he said please clap he was giving permission rather than begging for applause.

However, the edited video made it look like he was begging. It’s a bit like the Dean Scream.
