You know, seeing all the complaints about the IOC and the onion not being cooked… The only thing bothering me is that the utensils aren’t on either side of the plate.
Pretty close we make a dish out of roasted onions to have drinks with from where I come from
That’s it. I’m done. I’m transitioning. I refuse to support this. Good luck to you all.
You don’t want to support it, you want to experience it first hand? Is that it?
Fake. I ain’t using a whole utensils and plate for onion. God gave us two hands: one for onion, one for Jack and jack-based activities.
One for Jack-on, one for Jack-off. It only makes sense.
I left two onions and four apples at the self-checkout yesterday after paying for them. Just forgot to put the bag in the cart. They could easily credit my account having been informed by the next customer, but no, they won’t. They’ll put them back on the shelf and sell them again.
Lesson learned, only buy booze from now on
It pisses me off you can’t get booze at the self checkout. They have an attendant there for problems. Would it really be so hard for them to come over and check an ID? But no, I’ve got to go stand in the one manned line they have open for 20 minutes instead of being out of there in 2 minutes.
Edit: I have just learned this is a California problem. Other places may not have to put up with this.
I’m in a state where you can buy weaker alcohols (under 22%) at the self checkout. But many times I have waited over 10 minutes for someone to come over and check my ID. Just standing there with the orange light flashing and there are four other orange lights flashing and the self checkout line isn’t moving at all.
What you’ve described is what happens here in Georgia.
But we can only buy beer and wine in a supermarket, liquor, spirits etc have to be bought in a separate location, and you can’t buy alcohol before noon on Sundays.
All of which is that classic small government freedom you expect from a red state.
Can’t argue with that.
Sounds like you should steal apples and onions.
This is boy dinner because a man would spend the money on good whiskey, and at least have a protein to go with the veg side dish.
You know, Jack might be fun to shit on, but a wise man once told me the best whiskey is the one you like to drink!
Good point tho, next post will have protein
My favorite beer is free. Second favorite is cold.
I hate JD neat and im a massive Scotch snob but nothing beats a double JD and coke, will happily hammer those all day
Yeah, Jack & coke is great, but my drink of choice is a quality bourbon neat, and JD isn’t up to the job. I don’t hunt for the super rare or allocated bourbons, but there are some pretty good bottles that are always on the shelf.
Too many carbs, switch to vodka. We are trying to live past 50 over here.
Why?
You lot need to play scrandle
Explain!
I know people were complaining about the lack of onions before, but I think this is an overcorrection
Jack Daniels? Disgusting. Get some proper whiskey instead. I prefer the onion fried, with some fries, and a chunk of cheese. Real cheese though.
Amen, brother. Jack is the Walmart MacDonald’s of brown liquor. I would rather drink mystery booze from a water bottle distilled by a guy with no teeth in his Mom’s back yard.
That’s Todd. Did he make the apple pie or the straight sugar liquor this batch?
Oooh that sounds good :)
Depends on what it’s distilled from.
Apricot brandy is my personal favorite.
Sold
Isn’t Whiskey supposed to have no taste aside alcohol?
You’re thinking of vodka
Whiskey is highly diverse
Ah right, thanks.
Real whiskey on the rocks has a huge number of flavors depending on the age and manufacturer. Jack Daniels is the bottom of the rung.
On the rocks? How dare you. Ice masks the flavor. It’s only for people who want to drink whiskey but don’t actually like the taste.
Gonna have to stop you there. Ice/water enhances the flavor and makes even rot gut whiskey palatable.
A few drops of ice water, yes. But raising the temperature of the whiskey itself masks the flavor. Whiskey is best on room temperature.
You have it your way. I’ll have it mine. Oh and Ice lowers the temperature not raises it.
Hahaha yeah exactly, my bad xD
Vodka is meant to be colorless and flavorless, ideally pure water and ethanol.
Whiskey is made to retain flavors from the grain it isade from, and aged in charred oak barrels to impart flavors from the wood. The region of the world and the process used causes a variety of flavors.
Scotch, from Scotland, is made primarily or entirely of barley. The malted barley is toasted over a peat fire, which is where scotch gets its peaty or smoky flavor from, and that flavor often depends on where around Scotland the peat is sourced from, Islay Scotches are noted for rather aggressive flavors. Scotch is aged in used whine, sherry or bourbon barrels, so they often take on characteristics from the barrel’s previous contents.
Irish whiskies are made of partially unmalted barley, which lends a unique kind of floral note.
American Bourbon is made of at least 51% corn and aged in new white oak barrels. The United States is almost all warmer than the Britain and Ireland (not a lot of whiskey is made in Alaska) so the booze interacts with the barrel differently and extracts different chemicals. Bourbons are noted for cherry, apple, vanilla and caramel flavors. Not all whiskey made in the United States fits the definition of bourbon; there’s a lot of interesting things happening in the American “Single Malt” category which is Let’s Try To Make Scotch, But On A Continent. Not a lot of peat bogs in the US, so hardwood charcoal is used to smoke the malted grain instead, and again America’s climate means it ages differently, so the result is quite different from Scotch but still quite interesting.
Canadian Rye whiskey is often citrusy or spicy.
The fork is the part that bothers me the most. So much handle, so little tine.
Consider the average fork. Do the times need to be so long? When have you ever needed to impale your food to a depth of 40mm or more?
Conversely, think on when you have picked up food and it slid down the times, so that to bite it off you must insert the bare tubes perilously deep into your mouth where you might strike a tooth or the tongue?
Shorter fork tines are the way of the future
That’s barely enough room for spaghetti! I won’t stand for this!
That sounds like propaganda from Big Spork!
I’ve always preferred foon to spork. But, I guess that ship sailed.

Can you share the recipe?
- Onion (optional)
- Whiskey
Thanks. I’m not a great cook but this looks simple enough. I will give it a try.
… but what’s the onion for? 🤔
Mush it, add to whiskey.
To cleanse the palette of that terrible whiskey
Man tears
So we can blame the tears on something other than our crippling regret and or loneliness
Im not crying, Iv been chopping onions. Im making a lasagna… for one.
Exactly
To explain why does a single man drink and cry.
Boy dinner
Without the onion it’s man dinner.

I love how men just make fun of themselves and admit they are incompetent at surviving with any decent quality of life without a “woman” in the kitchen.

I consider myself fucking shit at cooking compared to my mum but God damn people it’s not that difficult.

Wouldn’t be Lemmy without someone going off the rails in the comments.
This is OP’s second account and he just wanted to flex his cooking.

Boy Dinner is a different vibe, but if we’re talking cooking and sexist, I did have a gay uncle who was happy to be quoted saying;
“Women don’t belong in the kitchen… if you want a good meal”
Man was wildly out of pocket announcing that every hosted Thanksgiving to his sister’s eyerolls, but he knew how to cook a mean fucking steak!
I should not have read this post hungry…
