  • A few things:

    Words mean individual words

Correct, we have another word called ‘letters’. As it pertains to this instance, when you take the letters of the word ‘apple’ and rearrange them alphabetically — they are no longer a word. Unless you would accept aelpp as a spelling of apple.

    1. I sincerely doubt this is the first time this child has seen the term alphabetical order, I would be inclined to think the child is a clever smartass depending on the individual.

    2. Either way, the situation is very simple to handle without breaking the childs self esteem.

‘I totally understand why you came to the conclusion you did, and you did write the letters in alphabetical order! However, the instructions say to ‘write the words in alphabetical order’. Try again, I bet you’ll get 100%!’

The child is most likely just wrong. Teaching them to think critically about their failures is not a problem. Treating them as if failure is some pit they need to forever keep from falling into definitely is, and not helping the child learn to navigate failure is infinitely more detrimental.

Edit: Nothing is more aggravating than being challenged by bleeding hearts who don’t have enough blood left for their brains. Especially when I take the time to break down why their misplaced empathy is wasted only to receive zero response. Cowardly behavior, truly — children will be left anxiety ridden and logically broken if exposed to your methods.

  • I bet you would not consider them as innocent as your friend.

    Why would you assume this?

Beyond which, to hate the U.S. military for their crimes one must hate the Russian military for theirs — lest they make themselves out to be a hypocrite. I don’t care if you want to call out the U.S. military, do not act like the Russians are guiltless or somehow deserving of compassion. I will feel no more compassion for them than I will U.S. soldiers in the event of an invasion of Canada or Greenland.

  • My friend went into the military and, as he puts it, ‘swept sand in a sandstorm’ for most of his time there. His experience seemed to be mostly boredom. He wore a beard to hid his nega-chin and ended up working on AC units for the most part.

Let’s see, last time I checked Russia was releasing violent criminals to fight in Ukraine. You go ahead and find me a modern comparison from the U.S., I’ll wait.

Edit: violent criminals who rape new recruits, by the way — in the interest of clarity.

  • Clancy was a staunch conservative. Dedicated several of his books to notable conservative politicans such as Ronald Reagan. He supported the NRA (yes I understand the NRA has changed form over the years but I don’t really care) and he opposed abortion.

He praised Bush for being a ‘good guy’, granted he did challenge the justifications for the Iraq War (I also don’t really care about a broken clock managing to be right).

I haven’t read any of his novels for a very long time, but what I remember is that amongst the tech and spy stuff there is stuff that sounds like very clear RW propaganda (to me).

Granted, this is the first time I’ve thought about Clancy in years outside of conversations with my (you might have guessed it) conservative coworker. I don’t really know much about the man other than he was definitely conservative. I think you could probably make the argument that he was center right, and that the center right from the 60’s is very different than the center right of today. Draw your own conclusions.
