I am fortunate enough to have the option to work from home several days a week. Extra nice is the coffee at home is much much tastier than in the office :D
I prepared this “latte macchiato” style drink with a 4-cup moka pot, 16g of store-bought high roast coffee beans (not particularly good), 170mL water. 100mL milk, warmed in the microwave, foamed with a small electric whisk.
Easy to prepare at home with simple tools. I don’t have any fancy espresso machine 😥 Result looks good, tastes not bad either. What hold it back in terms of flavor is the quality of the beans. I am just trying to get through this bag quickly as to not waste.
Should post this in milk@lemmy.world
Something like this would be tricky, but setting up a small simple coffee workstation in the office for filter coffee has really made being at work a little less painful.
Said ‘work from home’ , I expected there to be Bailey’s in it.
Tempting, but not this time :)
If you know someone who has a bean-to-cup machine and is also not that picky for their coffee you can offer them the rest of the beans. At least that’s what I did when I had beans that I didn’t like myself.
Your latte looks great though.
I can’t think of anyone that would be interested right now. These beans are pretty tasty made as cold brew. It gives sweet and chocolatey notes. We are past the cold brew season though, I am not in the mood for iced drinks. Yesterday, I was very busy with meetings, so I just microwaved a cup of the cold brew. It wasn’t the most powerful flavors, but it tasted pretty nice overall.
I have yet to find a proper ungrounded coffee. Everything I’ve tried ends up tasting like tea, no flavor and stale - even expensive coffee beans
Tea you say… you might spend some time here.
If you can, don’t buy the beans at the supermarket. Go directly to a roastery close to you. In my experience, beans at the supermarket are often months old already and when I go to the roastery they give me beans that were roasted only 2-3 days before. The difference in taste is night and day.
And ask them to grind it for you if you don’t have a good grinder.
How are you making your coffee?
I used a De’Longhi magnifica S model(with coffee grinder) for a couple of years, then tried coffee filters, then Italian coffee maker, etc.I am now using a Nespresso pods machine, but ofc I’m not happy with it - it is better than the De’Longhi.
I might be too picky…
I am able to make better than coffee shop’s espresso with my de’longhi Dedica. I had to upgrade the handle (to a bottomless portafilter) and tamper though. I use a bodum burr grinder for my coffee. took a bit of playing with the coffee weight to get what i wanted but once I dialed in it made me a coffee snob.
It sounds like you were not making the espresso correctly from the taste you described. Maybe try experimenting with the variables like Grind size or fill level a bit to see how the taste changes. If you still have the machine I would be happy to help you make better coffee.
It could also be the age of the beans, have they been recently roasted?
It looks like a bean to cup product and I mean that as a compliment. It is looking professional.
I am interested in getting espresso machine but I keep reminding myself I have no space for it and it will be one thing after the next chasing a better cup of coffee. Even if I cut my options and get a all in one sage - the next step will be the grinder breaking and I’ll be out shopping for a fancy grinder.
Moka pot is a good method if you can get it right!
What do you like about the milk foam?
