I treat other people like people by taking a shower before I go to a local game store or other enclosed space where we’re forced to be together for a few hours. I’m sorry for people who struggle with it but I don’t accept ableism arguments for these situations. Are folks literally unable, or just not prioritizing the community when they make decisions? I think it’s the latter.

Let me tell you two stories.

In the first one, someone doesn’t think it is that important to bathe, and others suffer.

In the second one, someone spends their whole day trying to get the motivation to do literally anything. 5 pm rolls around, and at the very last minute, they manage to make it out the door to make it to the event at the game store that is basically their only social interaction of the whole day, but it is so important for trying to improve their mental health. Maybe they put deodorant on, maybe they forgot, but either way it didn’t really help.

That’s one way it could be from lack of empathy, or disability. I have way more sympathy for the person in the 2nd story.
