  • Some union agreements have rules against that, so that they’re obliged to inform you in advance if the meeting has potential consequences for your employment.

Or, it can be more subtle, that they are obliged to inform you of your right to bring an observer to the meeting.

It won’t save you from getting sacked, but it might give you a better chance of getting compensated when the company inevitably forgets to do it right…

  • I miss my first apartment. I had more furniture, but life was simple. At least for a while.

My mistake was to help a friend out by inviting him for a beer after work. He had broken up with his girlfriend and needed a place of his own. I got him into an apartment in my building. Big mistake. The guy just couldn’t figure out how to be alone by himself. Every day just as I got home from work and sat down in my lawnchair, he’d ring my doorbell within 5 minutes wanting to hang out. It was alright for a while, but I soon got enough of socializing in all my free time. I’d rather be alone and do creative projects and such.

I told him off several times and explained how I needed personal time for myself, but he’d be back the very next day, not understanding how personal time could possibly take more than a few hours.

For the remaining time I lived there, I’d leave the door open, and just go on about my day whether or not he was around. The serenity was broken anyway.

  • Depends on where in the world.

In my case, if it should happen to me, I would call the union and stop working immediately. The union would then contact the company to inform them of their obligation to pay me and of the fee which doubles every day until they pay. If they fail to pay me and the fees within the set deadline, which is usually 5 days, the working court would quickly send a declaration of bankruptcy. The company don’t get a say in that court. Only the unions of employees and the unions of employers have access. A simple matter like this is resolved quickly because unfortunately there are plenty of precedent cases.

At that point I wouldn’t really give a shit if the company pays or goes bankrupt, because my salary would be paid to me either way. If the company can’t pay, we have a fund to cover salaries to employees of bankrupted companies.

It’s somewhat more complicated for people outside of unions. They have to pay a lawyer to battle it through civil court. They’ll usually win but it can take months and cost a lot.

  • Sunvox is a masterpiece. Perfect for small size audio. It’s strange that it isn’t more widely used in game development or even webpages. Not just because of small sizes, but because it’s also possible to interact with the music, while it’s being generated. I have no idea of how to classify this as a piece of software but it’s mind boggling powerfull and it still runs perfectly on any potato.

It would be nice to have better recording options than using the sampler, but I guess that defies the purpose of it.
