  • TBH this disappeared on Reddit too. All my preferred fandom subs are now cesspools, with zero depth in fandom knowledge yet weird, cultish worshipping of the material. Bigger general subs feel like bot farms.

    Piefed’s /c/television is 1000x better.

But the best places on the internet for that are probably the TVTropes forums, SpaceBattles, and other “surviving” fiction boards.

  • I find the overhead of docker crazy, especially for simpler apps. Like, do I really need 150GB of hard drive space, an extensive poorly documented config, and a whole nested computer running just because some project refuses to fix their dependency hell?

Yet it’s so common. It does feel like usability has gone on the back burner, at least in some sectors of software. And it’s such a relief when I read that some project consolidated dependencies down to C++ or Rust, and it will just run and give me feedback without shipping a whole subcomputer.

  • Playing devil’s advocate, I think it’s reasonable to have a load-up-minutes dumb phone, in case family dies or something and they don’t have access to the right app. That’s reasonable for close family to get upset about.

But you also don’t have to give that number out, heh.

I guess you could use Google Voice too, but that’s a bit… counterproductive unless you can sandbox the app.

  • I just switched from Android to iOS, and while I have many complaints, I’m pleasantly surprised by how “walled off” the apps mostly are. Unlike Android, they have to comply to function for the general public.

It feels a lot more like tier two, where it isn’t like a spyware implant but your banking app or whatever will still function. And yes I know it’s far from good, just talking degrees here…
