  • I took a CPR class about a month ago in the US, and artificial ventilation is still strongly recommended. Otherwise, oxygen levels slowly drop off, making chest compressions less effective over time.

    Chest compressions only are better than doing nothing, and most CPR trained people probably don’t have a mouth cover for sanitary ventilation unless a medical kit is nearby (most places in public have one).

    Doing ventilation correctly takes some practice, which is why inexperienced people are told to do chest compressions only during emergencies. But if you take a dedicated CPR course, they still teach and recommend ventilation.
