My bf and I go thrifting almost every week and we always get milkshakes on the way home and then do a fashion show. He always goes “omg that’s so cute!” or “Your butt looks so good in that!”. Thrifting days are usually the highlight of my week.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you speak another language besides ENG, are the subtitles terrible?English
4·12 days agoNot usually. The sentences are often different from how I would understand them, but get the general idea in a way that’s easy to digest.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•According to Lemmy Users: Blockchain was a grift, AI is a grift, Quantum computing will be a future grift. So according to you what new and emergent technologies are not / will not be a grift?English
1·13 days agoWhy does a blockchain have to be one big omni ledger? Why do users need more than one token in it? Blockchain could be used for login tokens for a website or for proof of ownership of software licenses.
Yeah it’s currently flawed and used beyond the scale it’s capable of for things it’s not really good for, that was my entire point. Now the tech is tainted and reviled because of the grift and no one wants to touch it and explore what it could be useful for.

432·13 days agoBlockchain had potential in use cases beyond currency replacement and speculative assets. AI has actual use cases as a high quality chatbot. Instead these things were hyped and marketed as things beyond their actual capabilities.
Quantum as it is currently doesn’t seem like a grift, but is just a susceptible to being manipulated and marketed as one as soon as there’s a remotely market viable version of it.
The problem isn’t lemmings or luddites, the problem is lying capitalists hoping to sell something that doesn’t exist or isn’t stable.

Technology@lemmy.world•Meta's Super Expensive New AI Team Is Already a Complete Catastrophe: "It's literally the gulag."English
4·15 days agoI don’t believe that will ever come to pass. That future relies on the creation of a real AI and not just fancy text predictors. That real AI would also have to be actually sustainable which LLMs are not.
Not only has there been no progress on real AI, it wouldn’t be able to ruin society even if we did manage to make it. The rich and powerful are not impervious. They will inevitably make too many people too poor and then be overrun and torn to shreds. It’s happened countless times before and if we’ve learned anything from Ukraine and the Middle East this past decade, it’s impossible to bomb a large group of people into submission.

6·16 days agoHave you heard of the “permanent underclass”? It’s a concept that silicon valley people have become obsessed with. Silicon Valley tech workers are doing hard drugs and taking untested peptides so that they can work harder and longer all in the pursuit of escaping the permanent underclass they believe AI will create. These people believe that when AI takes all the jobs, everyone who isn’t already rich will become part of some permanently unemployable poverty class.
It’s madness, but you already have to be unwell and have no concern for humanity in order to work at these giga tech firms in the first place.

Jeez yeah that’s tough. My bf and I have already agreed I’m the wordy, talkative one. Even if he is kinda repetitive, I can see in his eyes what he appreciates and what he’s less enthusiastic about and I appreciate his participation and validation nonetheless.
