  • I lost 5 years worth of restaurants and travel places I’d been secretly saving to do retirement trips with my wife someday (lol, retirement…)

They got moved to “archived” and then apparently they get removed from archived after 30 days unless you disable that “feature”

I went to add a restaurant one day and the entire set of tabs was gone. No idea how long it had been gone for, and browsing through my history of closed tabs on my cell phone was neigh impossible.

I’m still incredibly salty about that.

  • Lost mine because for a few months a year the sun beam would hit the boxes, a few years of that, no more ps1/ps2 games.

I’m fine with digital media, if the system goes down I’ve got enough storage for a long time, if it’s longer than that I’m not going to have time for gaming anyways.

If the service I’m paying to license games removes my licenses (without refunds) I have no problem going back to the seas (something I haven’t done in over a decade, because it’s convenient enough to support the developers I want to support)

  • Strong disagree.

Put a guy back 200 years ago with the concept of things to come and let the great thinker of the time stand on the shoulders of an Everyman from today, we would be at least a hundred years ahead of where we are currently.

There were some very intelligent people back then who just didn’t know the rules of the game they were playing. They had to figure out the rules so future inventors could build off of them.

Go back 200 years and say “everything is made of things from the periodic table, it has rows and columns” and you instantly revolutionize chemistry. If you know of acids and bases you’re even further along. There are ways to communicate long distances without using sounds or visible light, boom twenty years later I guarantee someone will have figured it out, it’s terribly obvious once you know it’s possible, but why would you assume invisible communication is possible since it’s so outlandish to our seemingly natural everyday rules?

The only thing you need to do is survive being proclaimed a heretic, you need to get open minded thinkers to hear you, because the closed mindedness was even more entrenched in society than it is today.

  • If they were tracking what I was buying from the company I wouldn’t give a rats ass, in fact I’m quite sure that information is readily available to them.

I’m not a privacy nut, I’m usually poking fun at privacy first people, but I don’t put any app on my phone that I didn’t pay for, or that doesn’t have code I can’t understand (I can’t understand code at all, but there’s a “flashlight widget 'app '” that’s like 50 lines long.
