    I can’t speak as to 13th century AD Islamic societies specifically, but in 13th century AD Christian Europe, this view of women as manipulative harlots preying on poor, innocent men was fairly common, and resulted in a variety of legal restrictions on women’s behavior.

    The Romans also had a similar view of being manipulated into emotional slavery, but related to romantic love as a whole, including male-male love. Nothing should be more important to you than duty to the Republic! O TEMPORA! O MORES!

      Maybe I’m too modern, I just can’t understand that point of view at all. Slavery? I don’t understand how that could happen, specifically with desire as the original quote claims.
