    What the fuck is it with the censoring of words in these images? Can’t “vagina” be said anymore?

      Modern corporate internet speak is censored speech. Can’t upset advertisers. The worst thing about it is that people are starting to do it on their own unprompted, being good conditioned consumers.

      It’s for appeasing advertisers. People assume their posts are being disadvantaged by the algorithms on social media, and in consequence fewer people will see the posts and engage with them. The algorithms eventually do what ad companies want from them.

      It’s a trick to drive engagement. Posts with a tame word like this censored gets posts from people who object to or are confused by the censorship. Then others start responding saying that the censorship makes sense or doesn’t undermine the basic point of the post. It doesn’t really matter on a site like lemmy, but on a Meta platform it increases clicks and therefore income.
