i’ll never understand why you’re not supposed to talk about politics, sex or religion in polite conversations; those are the best things to talk about. lol
The problem is that people confuse politics with liberal electoral politics. Discussing the price of parking (or if it should be free, or even if there should be a parking space at all) or whether people in a condo should be allowed to smoke inside the condo is already discussing politics.
Also because Americans are so insanely polarized that mentioning you are the wrong team makes them immediately start fantasizing about you being murdered. I mean, it’s all tribalism and “sportsball” mentality and they literally try to kill each other and start riots over sportsball games.
I like to bing up libraries and then talk about how some libraries have started renting out tools and stuff like sewing machines and general hobby stuff. Then when everyone thinks thats awesome I got right for the jugular and bring up soviet tractor stations introduced during Stalins time to help farmers have access to equipment.
