DW will close around half of its accounts on the social media platform X as part of its current budget reductions. The decision is linked to savings requirements and broader adjustments to DW’s digital offerings.

DW will gradually close the following accounts on X by the end of the year and will no longer provide editorial support for them: @dw_balkan, @dw_brasil, @dw_croatian, @dw_conflictzone, @dw_europe, @dw_greek, @dw_hindi, @dwnews, @dw_politik, @dw_polski, @dw_shqip, @plus90 and @zapovednikshow. The respective communities will be informed in advance and directed to alternative DW digital offerings.

In countries where access to independent information is restricted, DW will continue to maintain a presence on X, including services aimed at audiences in Iran and Russia.

    You don‘t close just half of your accounts due to disinformation or hate speech concerns. That‘s complete BS.

      They were honest, it’s about budget, not any stance on disinformation/hate speech. Here’s the lede from the linked article:

      There’s a reason they only put the financials amon there, because that’s the part they care about. The awful shit that twitter supports is just a paint job they’re throwing on because it no longer makes financial sense to be as active on the Nazi site, which is why it comes after 3 paragraphs discussing the financial aspect.

    Yeah, the budget being the reason they’re leaving doesn’t make this a good thing, even tho they’re starting to get off the platform. If they’re only getting rid of half, there’s still a bunch of accounts using Herr Musk’s hate platform.

    I used to think that it’s so wild that German media is hanging out at the Nazi site, but after seeing Germany’s reaction to the genocide and siding with the genociders, I don’t know why I’m surprised.
