Explanation: In Weimar Germany, the German Republic after WW1, but before the Nazis came to power, the political scene was… anything but stable.

The SPD, a party of social democrats and democratic socialists, had a fruitful period of cooperation with the KPD, the Communist party…

… until the KPD received marching orders from their new boss in Moscow in 1928, the newly ascendant Stalin, to refuse to cooperate with the ‘social fascists’ of the SPD, under the bizarre notion that the Weimar Republic collapsing under the weight of the far-right would let the KPD smoothly assume power, as though the army and paramilitaries were already communist instead of, you know, conservative as fuck.

Zentrum and its partners, the main centrist (hence the name) party, was not interested in much other than retaining the privileges of the Christian Church (especially the Catholic Church, where most of their popular support came from) and playing dipshit ‘fiscal responsibility’ games as the economy nosedived.

Hindenburg, and the associated conservative parties, remained popular amongst the great mass of ‘non-ideological’ voters, but were fundamentally opposed to the existence of the Weimar Republic, being largely dedicated monarchists.

And yet there is always something worse if you look - the fucking Nazis were on the rise at this point, leveraging claims of political dysfunction into promises that THEIR heroic party would totally Make Germany Great Again, because the REAL problem was just that Germany had given the WRONG PEOPLE TOO MANY RIGHTS

My grandma lived through that time, as a teenage girl.
One day when she was home alone, someone broke the glass pane on the back door and tried to open the door handle inside.
She panicked, grabbed the axe from the fireplace, and swung at him.
Chopped off the intruder’s hand and he fled.
When her dad and older brother got home, they grabbed their guns and went looking for the intruder, but couldn’t find him.
They threw the hand in the nearest river and cleaned up the house.
Police never showed up, and wasn’t called either.

I mean, to be fair, after hyperinflation austerity and fiscal conservatism is the right path forward mostly because at that point you simply can’t get debt or print more money

Curiously, I don’t remember learning anything about the direct Russian influence on the KPD in school. Makes me wonder what we spent all those hours learning about the Nazi regime on (we spent a massive amount of time on it compared to other history topics), if we didn’t spent even one minute on looking at Stalin’s role in the rise of the NSDAP.

Good Lord, Pugjesus handed out a 74 year ban for the above comment. How much of a fragile little petty tyrant do you have to be?

Because if he doesn’t post in his echo chambers, people call him out. He’s often reported people in communities he doesn’t moderate for disagreeing with him. It’s sad.
