I think it sounds wrong because the letter “U” is pronounced “yew”, and y is not a vowel. You would never say ‘an yurt’ or ‘an yogurt’. If it was prounced “oo”, then “an oo F O” would sound correct.
But as it is, it just sounds wrong. And whether technically correct or not, I reject it!

Prion disease, like generic mutations, really boggles my sense of self. There’s no foreign invader battling your own parts for survival. It’s just the substrate that life gets built upon getting fucked up. It highlights the literal truth in the metaphor that we are biological machines.

This is a miserable take. Either
You have beef with the disparity between the lines for who has responsibility for the child vs who has ultimate authority over the child. And that is fair! But it’s a problem with the current structure of the system, and we don’t need to harken back to some stupid lie about the good old days to justify the current impasse.
Don’t worry, only rich communities’ public school were/ are like that in Texas. Schools are funded at the district-level in Texas, so poor communities go to poor schools and wealthy kids go to wealthy schools. If districts get so big that they encompass both, sometimes the wealthy residents try to stage a coup and split the district into wealthy and poor.
